Another 2.8 turbo project
Unlike most people in this forum that say there working on trying to custom make a turbo that will fit and function on the 2.8 ... I'm actually doing it i will keep the forum updated and upload pictures as I go... It's possible and I'll make sure it happens
|
It is possible... 034 make's one already.
Your limited as to how much boost you can create because those pistons aren't forged. |
I'll be limited until I do my bottom end , I'm not going to do the motor work till I'm sure it's running and working right
|
The drivetrain from what I hear is the same as in the 2.7t. The valvetrain on the other hand is like the pistons.... not forged.
To make this work you would need aftermarket forged pistons for the 2.8 If you look online.. you may be able to find a kit from Weisco (I think that's how you spell it). They are selling forged pistons with better rings and etc. They claim the original Pauter rods are strong so they don't need to create forged rods, you can use those. Even if you get those pistons.. you have to worry about the valvetrain surviving the boost. The oil squirters in the 2.7t are good too because I bet they decrease temperatures and increase lubricity within the engine. Your best bet is to start off with a 2.7 and if anything... use 2.8 heads. |
No the 2.8 can handle low boost there not the same motor either the 2.8 has larger pistons... Once I get the turbo in and tuned I can the build my bottom end to handle more boost
|
i'm about 99% sure the pistons are forged mahle's, just like the 1.8t and 2.7tt. I've actually taken a 2.8 apart before. the problem with boosting a 2.8 is that they are not built for boost from the factory like the other two engines. youll be using so many 2.7tt parts to boost your 2.8, you might as well just get a 2.7tt, including the ecu and harness. and at that point you might as well just buy an s4.
there no good tuning solutions for a 2.8. i'd like to hear how you plan on getting around these problems, and on less money than straight up buying an s4. |
Stand alone and the 2.8 can handle low boost

lets break it down a bit standalone- $1000 turbo- $1000 s4 intake mani- $100 intercooler- $300 exhaust mani- $100-$1000 (custom?) plenty of odds and ends- $500 theres plenty more that I am not taking into account for, and you are already over $3000 invested. A really nice b5 s4 in my area just sold for $4500. So, for $1500 more, you could buy another car. sell your car for $3000, and have an extra $1500 to mod the s4. it just isn't really a good idea. and even if you do end up turboing the a4, youll end up with around 300awhp at the most. |
Yea but just to say I did it and it works is awesome plus it's going to be rear mounted
