Default Audi misfiring code but doesn't seem to be missing?

My 98.5 Audi a4 1.8tQ got a check engine light today while driving, iBook it to autozone and it said it was missing on cylinders 1 and 3 and another random misfire. Now the car seems to be running fine for the most part. Are these faulty codes or should I replace the coils? I just replaced the spark plugs about 500 miles ago

Did you search? This is pretty common.

clear code, swap coils to 2 and 4, drive, rescan. If the miss moves to 2 and 4, you need new coils. if the miss stays at 1 and 3, it's something else.

since my knowledge of aeb's sucks, dont quote me on this but on gm cars, #1 and #3 on four cylinders are on the same coil. if its the same with audi, id suspect the ignition control module, which is also problematic.

What's an aeb? And should I try replacing the control module or the ignition coils?

So my engine is an aeb? and I can buy a new set of 4 coils for about $80, should I try but them and if it doesn't work put the stock back on and try the control module?
