Automatic headlights?
I'm about to purchase a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T quattro and I forgot to check thoroughly but it seemed like it doesn't have automatic head lights. is this true? if so, is it possible/feasible to make them automatic? the car I'm using right now doesn't have automatic head lights and because I'm so used to automatic ones I'm constantly leaving them on and killing the battery. thanks
yeah that's what I thought. okay thanks. do you know of a way to convert it to automatic though?
as far as i know there is no way to convert it to automatic. im sure it can be down, but it will require more than just taking out the switch. youd need to wire in accesory power and a realy so it turns them on with the key. not worth your time
Actually, it would probably be pretty easy to use a diode to jump the terminals in the relay. Then you wouldn't even need the switch. The same could most likely be done for the fog lights (both front and rear). I did a "Full Auto" conversion like this on my Yukon and it worked great. All lights came on and stayed on with ignition, even with the high beams activated. You want to talk about bright! 4300K Projectors and 6000K HID High Beams and fog lights.
It depends on you definition of "automatic". If the OP just wants the lights to come on with the ignition every time, it's not too bad. Simple relay and splice. Our low beams already stay on with the high beams for facelift headlights. High beams do cut out the fogs.
If you're looking to have the headlights come on for you when it gets dark, then it's a whole new ball game.

well actually i probably should be more specific. i don't have a problem with turning them on when i need them. i just want them to automatically turn off when the car turns off. essentially eliminating the potential to forget to turn them off
In that case, you'll have to change the main 12V power source to an accessory 12V power source, then just leave the headlight switch on indefinitely. The only problem with that, is that you won't be able to turn them off when you want/need to, unless you incorporate an inline "Kill Switch" of some kind.
