I have a 2001 a4 1.8t quattro with no reverse .when you start the car it jumps foward in park. When I shift into reverse it does nothing.when I shift into neutral it drives foward like its in dribe.i can drive the car fine in drive till it reaches 5th gear then all of a sudden it will downshift into 3rd gear or 4th gear. When I use the tiptronic I can shift into all gears but 5th gear. It does the same thing when I shift to 5th gear using the tiptronic it downshifts into 4th gear or 3rd gear. I have changed the filter and fluid.i have changed the electronic shifter under the gear selector.i have changed the range multifunction switch.i have swapped out the tcm as well but did not program it .it acts the same with the other tcm. I even changed the valve body and still does the same thing.still no reverse and still downshifts on its own when i reach 5th gear. I ran out of solutions. How can it drive fine in all 4 gears but not in 5th gear even with a new valve body. Has it come down to the trans itself or is it electrical.pleasehelp.

 

Sounds to me like you've spent about $300-$500 on parts. Please tell me you've put a VAG-COM on the tranmission module....

I wouldn't spend another dime on this till you pull codes from the trans module...even if you have to pay someone to do it.

 

So far 200 im a mechanic .I.hooked up the maxidas scan tool .no codes! Thats why this is driving me crazy

 

Any ideas anyone or is it just mechanical?
