B5 stuttering and jerking when engine is in gear
Hello,
i have a 1999 A4 quattro manual wagon. Only higher octane gas is used. Battery was recently replaced.
This used to only happen at high speeds....
I would be on the freeway doing 70 and give it a heavy stomp on the pedal and the car would hesitate or stutter a bit, then take off.
However, I wouldn't do that to the car very often...
Now while normally accelerating out of a traffic light, the car stutters a bit.
if it doesn't stutter at that point, if i am in any gear and start to drive aggressively, the car jerks or stutters.
It is getting to the point that it may become dangerous to drive.
When the car has no load on it (in neutral), it revs perfectly fine. It is only while in gear.
I am going to start with some fuel injector cleaner.
Any other leads to the possible problem would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I reset the throttle body (by disconnecting the battery for a minute, then connecting it and turning the key, wait for the throttle body sound to cease, then start the car).
after that, put in a fresh tank of gas with injector cleaner. so far, so good. car has used 1/3 of that tank of gas and runs fine.
