Default Best exhaust for 1.8t

Hey guys, im sure this has been covered before but i cant find exactly what im looking for so il just ask.

what is the best exhaust system for a 98' a4 b5 1.8t. This will be my first performance mod but will be getting an APR chip and intake in time

at the moment im thinking of getting a custom 3" turbo back exhaust with a 3.5" dump pipe and 3" test pipe.

would this be a good exhaust to get?, im looking for performance gains and a nice exhaust note and not a fart can honda sound.

also would the test pipe cause any problems? eg. overboosting

An intake upgrade would be a waste of money with very little performance mods. The test pipe and a 2.5-3" cat back will not sound like a honda with a fart can. The only thing you would have to worry about with the test pipe is throwing a CEL. Search for the "anti-fouler" trick for the downstream O2 sensor. It works... make sure when you get your chip, you also upgrade your DV to hold the extra boost.

Just out of curiosity in the newbie guide under magnaflow where it has the 1.8t sound clips, does anyone know if thats with a full exhaust or just the common 14815 muffler?

most likely a full exhaust. most people in here would not just put a muffler on without doing the entire exhaust. It's kinda rice-ish.

BTW, bonus points for using the newbie guide!!!

bradtyler02 would you consider an intake a waste of money if the car was chiped and exhaust?

Yeah pretty much! The stock box has more than enough airflow for the car. You can do an "airbox mod" basically drilling holes in the box so you can here the turbo better. You can do a diy basically heat shield with a cone filter but there is no gain but the sound which can be done with the air box mod...

^ What he said. Your current intake is already set up to suck in cold air from outside the engine bay. The air box and filter are pretty big, and can pass enough air for a chip and exhaust. I don't think you would need to worry about an upgrade until you get into BT.
