Big turbos got me shaking
So I finally got my BT installed and couldn't be happier besides a couple problems..
I've got most of them figured out but the one I just can't understand is ever since the install there has been a TON of vibration, especially at idle. I usually wouldn't care too much but its making my exhaust rattle and it just sounds like ass.. I can understand more vibrations and movement under load because of the extra power but why would it be vibrating so much at idle? How long have you had the turbo installed? What's your motor mount situation? GT2871r is quite a bit heavier than a K03, is there any bracing for it?

I've only had it installed for about a week. There's no brace, wasn't quite sure how to set one up with the elim mani. And motor mounts are stock, I also thought about those but couldn't decide if stiffer mounts would help or if they'd just make the vibrations worse.

Agreed with Chris. Check out all the main mounts including the snub. Also double heck any structural bolts (you didn't mess with the subframe at all for access, did you?). You may need to retorque some parts.

The stock turbo does have a brace but it would not fit on the elim, and I'm on the 034 high flow mani.
I should probably mention I've had an APR snub mount for the last 10k miles too. Another thing I should mention is that it shook this much ever since the first time I started the car after putting the BT in. So it's not as if my bt has worn out the stock mounts, it was an immediate difference. |
Semi-random question: can you spin your APR snub mount by hand while the car is all put back together (minus bumper)?
When my front bumper is off, I can reach behind the front lower cross-tube and spin my Stern snub mount with my hand. Does that make sense? The reason I bring this up is that the snub cage is adjustable, and I imagine if not properly adjusted it could introduce extra vibration through the snub mount. |
the stern is a little more vibratious than others, iirc.... mine rattles the shit out of my car, has sense day 1(after install), and has only gotten worse since i did stern mounts all around
|
My APR snub is touching the cage (notorious bad fitment) even after I tried shaving it, but it has done this since I have installed it so I'm doubting thats the problem.

somebody?
