Default Bose Audio System not reading CD's

Hi everyone,

I am a new proud owner of a 2000 Silver Audi A4 2.8. I absolutely love the car and find it almost perfect in every way. I plan on doing a few things to do it, starting with an HID converter kit.

There is only one problem, the stock Bose Symphony Audio System does not want to read CD's. It does not matter whether the CD has mp3 files, .wav files, or straight from the store CD bought disk. Every time I pop a disk into the slot, I have msg " CD ERR1"

Originally I wanted to play music from my HTC Evo 4g phone, I found the Precision Interface Electronics AUD-AUX that looked to be perfect but I didn't think I had a CD changer until I discovered it in the hidden compartment in the trunk. I do plan on getting the auxiliary adapter but need to have my CD slots working. I tried putting the disk into the console slot and in the CD changer and I still get the same message.

Would anyone have an idea why this is so or how I can fix it? I am looking forward to hearing the nice audio quality come from these speakers through a CD.

Thank you for your help guys.

Is this the wrong forum to ask this question?

I don't think this is the wrong place. I don't have the console CD slot in my car, just the changer, but this may still apply.

As far as I can tell, CD ERR1 is a read error. Dumb question: Are you sure you are inserting the disc facing the right direction? If yes, then it's possible the laser eyes are dirty and just can't read the discs. You can tear the changer/slot apart and try cleaning them, or take it somewhere to get fixed.

I bought a laser disk cleaner and inserted it into the cd slot. It wouldn't even read the laser disk cleaner nor would the disk spin.
