Cam Position sensor?

I am having problems with my car throwing a P0340, I have checked the wiring for the cam position sensor and as far as I can tell it tests good. I put in a new cam position sensor from Bosch and I am still getting the same problem, my car also decides to not start and crank, until you cycle the key and then it will start. I have tried to check the basics such as good connections and battery voltage. I really don't know where to go from here I am kind of stuck and the part it's throwing me for a loop is the fact that my car doesn't start consistently. But then it'll go and crank right over like it's mad and start right up after you cycle the key a few times. I don't really know if I'm putting this in the right spot but I really don't know what to do anymore, I am a boat mechanic and I'm kind of out of my realm but I would love to learn if anyone has any input I would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there. Is the EPC light on when cranking? If so intermittent starring is most likely the Crank Position Sensor. I would change that out and put your old cam position sensor back in and try it. If it works, then return the cam position sensor as it is way more expensive than the CPS. I just had this exact scenario happen on one of my B5’s. I returned the cam position sensor to the store.
