I have a 01 a4 quattro i am thinking about replaceing the turbo for a newer one and putting a new chip in it but its an auto with tip-tronic but im not sure if it would kill my tranny

 

Depends on the amount of power your pushing. If you get a k04 or GT28 elim kit you should be OK. If you plan on going big turbo then you'll need to rebuild. Kit is here for rebuild: http://www.levelten.com/SearchResult...0&Redirected=Y

I think the K04 with a new chip could get you up to about 200-210 HP. Check the mods and maintenance sticky. Great write up about turbo upgrades.

Also, I believe there are auto-trans chips which will make the trans more fun with the extra power... I was thinking about a K04 upgrade in the future, but after reading that sticky, I know I need to go big or go home! (My goal after Iraq is to get up to 300-350HP)

 

For the tip just do the k04 and chip. Or sell it and get a manual!

isnt the k04 pretty much the same power output as the k03? just more reliable?

Let's not get into another auto v. manual debate guys. I have plenty of evidence supporting the auto such as this: show me a clutch that can handle 3000 hp.
