Default Can you put 01 tails on 98? And 1-piece headlights?

I am looking at a 98 A4, it's the light blue (almost baby blue), 2.8L 5 SPEED Quattro... 90k miles, looking to be in near perfect condition...

Only problem is, I don't like the tail lights and headlights on the pre-2000's... Do the newer tail lights and one piece headlights directly bolt on to the older A4's? Because if I buy this 98' I would really like the newer style tails and headlights...

This is the 30V 2.8 correct? not the older 12V

I also don't like the stereo style in the older A4's but if this A4 is in as good of condition as it appears to be I don't care...

audi a4. immaculate condition

Thank you guys!

You can put 1-piece projector headlights (either OEM with amber corners, or ecodes with clear corners) in your 98 A4. You will have to cut off part of your fender which is used by the 2-piece headlights to hold the turn signal in place. It has to be removed to fit the 1-piece updated headlights in place. It's fairly easy and most members on here in your situation (including myself) have done it.

Here's a DIY by CCA4. He's a member on here too

You can also put the newer style taillights on it. They do require a few little changes but there are DIY's out there and it's pretty simple.

I believe only the 1997's and 1996's were the 12V, meaning you're looking at a 30V. You may find this page interesting as it marks some of the exterior changes in the years of the B5 A4 Mark's A4 Quattrobonium - A4 Differences

The color of the car in the ad is called Pelican Blue.

The position of the badges on the trunk is off from what it should be, by the way.

With the car at 90K you should realize that it will likely need new suspension (control arms, tie rod ends) because the bushings will likely be going. It will be costly at a dealer or shop, but parts are under $300 if you want to do it yourself or ask an Audi enthusiast/member here to help out.

Also, even though they said they had the timing belt replaced, if there is no documentation of the job being done properly (including thermostat, water pump, and more importantly, the hydraulic tensioner), then it's a really good idea to go ahead and do that.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Audi's, but judging by the number of posts on here, you may already know this stuff.

OP, the stereo/center console can be swapped also. That's a rare B5 there!

Anyone notice the picture of the interior conveniently cuts off the part of the seat that's practically ALWAYS torn?

Also, just because the pictures do look a little fishy (the badges being relocated), you should be aware (if you don't or won't realize it), that the headlights appear to already have been "updated" with 2-piece clear corners, and the dashboard appears to have an LCD screen.

I've never seen a 98 with an updated dashboard with LCD screen before. The wheels and apparent height suggest it has the sport suspension as well.

This would tell me the owner seemingly messed around with a few things so be sure to thoroughly check it out incase they're hiding anything. It could be that you're picking up a pretty sweet deal though too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that those tail lights were only on the '96/'97's. I thought that in '98 they were replaced with the ones with a white stripe near the top, and in 99.5' with a white stripe near the bottom. I might be wrong though. Still a great find!

According to Marks A4 Differences (link in above post), those lights were on 98s 97s and 96s models. It also shows only 96s having the longer plate holder on the trunk, but my 99 appears to have come with an original euro style trunk (unique paint color)

It's Pelican Blue...

And check for the timing belt service records. If not, talk him down some

Just called, it's got a rebuilt title, of course huh?... says nothing is wrong with it, I don't believe him for some reason, the whole car was re-cleared which is why the badges are misplaced i assume... no paperwork for timing belt or anything...

sketchy, thanks a lot for the replies though you guys are really helpful!
