Default Catalytic Converter

Driving down the road the other day i randomly started to hear my car sound like a john deere... kind of cool deep sound but no tone with it and i breathe in too much exhaust inside the car. Well the Catalytic Converter decided to break off in two pieces... The main tubing looks like someone sawed it in half right inside the front gasket. I've got a 99 1.8t... any suggestions on replacements/repair?

when mine happened i just decided to get a full exhaust. It cost me about 500 to get the hi flow cat and downpipe from labree motorsports and then another 500 to get it installed and get the rest of the piping. The converter is a common problem when you start to get to higher mileage.

my suggestion, if you don't have emission inspections is to straight pipe it, it'll be cheaper and more fun.

Yep. If you do have emissions, check into Random Technology (I don't recall the website, but just Google them). They sell high-flow cats that flow almost as well as a test pipe but will pass CA emissions. Kind of a "best of both worlds" solution.

just a thought but if we had enough room under our cars, wouldn't it be cool to put a muffler right after the downpipe? it'd save weight and clean up the rear end a bit. probably less restricted too. but for your fix, basically what everybody has said but if you can find and independent welder who is willing to do it, it's usually quite cheaper
