ok so im putting some pads on the rear wheels of my 97 1.8t fwd amd i cannot get the piston back in the caliper so i can put the new pads on. i am using a huge C clamp and i put the old break pad over the piston and try to clamp it ack in but it wont budge. am i doing something wrong or forgetting something?

 

The rears screw in. You can go to AutoZone and borrow the piston screw-in tools. The fronts compress but you have to screw the rears in. Make sure to remove the fluid reservoir cap so the pistons recompress more easily.

 

so i got the right tools and everything but i was an idiot when i couldnt get it to compress and tried pushing the brake sevral times and it made the piston come out further so i cannot fit the tool in there :-/

 

use needle nose pliers to turn the piston clockwise back in. Duct tape them to match the spread on the piston dimples, etc, rig it to work. It should be fairly easy to turn once you get it started. And I'm surprised the special tool won't fit even with piston all the way out. Good luck.

 

thanks for the help i was able to get the piston back in and the pads on but the brakes are really spongey now how do i get rid of that?

 

and when it was still jacked up i pushed on the brakes and it didnt stop the wheel, while the car was on or off or with the ebrake

 

you gotta keep pulling the ebrake and brake pedal like 50 million times before it'll finally decide to equalize itself. make sure you pull up as much as you can each time
