Hey i have a FWD 1999 a4 1.8t, Car doesn't seem to like the winter and would make weird clunking noises whenever i stop and accelerate from a stop but it wasn't as loud as braking. noise would come when i put steady pressure on the brakes from lower speeds under 40mph. the sound, sounds like metal snapping. it would go away whenever it got warm but now its pretty warm and the clunking noise is back.
Any tips on what it would be?

 

my car does the same. im most certain it is one or more of your control arms going bad. my audi makes a clunk as soon as my car comes to a dead stop(sometimes) and makes another clunk when i release the brake. not too loud but noticeable. check your control arms and see if they have some play in them.
