Cluster Confusion...
I have a 1999.5 1.8T Avant Quattro
My owners manual shows one style of gauge cluster (like I use to have in a 2001.5 Passat) but my cluster looks like this:

Has it been swapped or was this part of the half year stuff?
I need to know how to clear out my "service oil" and "service insp" reminders.

Owners manual says to hold down the button and turn the key on and hold till it clears. It didn't work, but like I said earlier, every picture in the owners manual shows the new style gauge cluster, and the button on those does mutiple tasks, also pulls out, pushes in, and possibly turns for controls. All mine does is push in! haha
1. Insert your key into the ignition.
2. Push in the odometer reset button, hold it in, and turn the key to the first click.
3. The display should read either "oil" or "service" if it does not, repeat steps #1 and #2.
4. To reset, pull out your instrument light dimmer button at the bottom of the tachometer.
5. Turn the ignition to the off position. When the ignition is turned back on, the display should be back to the trip odometer.

Thanks guys, it worked. All clear. After it worked, I pulled out my owner's manual again and sure enough it said exactly what you said. My bad, the first time I read it I missed the part about using both buttons. Oops.
I guess I was just mostly hung up on the picture in the manual not matching my cluster.

The **** below the tachometer is for the clock, not a light dimmer.

How to reset "in 2" ?
mine does both. if you just twist it; its the dimmer but if you pull/push [cant remember which one] and then twist it, its the clock...
