Default Cluster Interchangeability and swap

Hello,

I have Audi A4 1.8T 1999. The cluster started acting strange and I want to replace it. eBay sells them pretty cheap (used)...

I've been searching through audforums.com however and learned that immobilizer equipped vehicles have ECM / Key programming problem. I don't know if i have immo or not and I don't have vag-com either. Is there any way to figure that out by VIN? And do i get it right if there is no immo i do not need to reprogram anything, just swap it?

My original cluster is the one without info display (it has segmented display (6 segments) ). I am wondering if i can replace it with info-display one? I've heard alot about lcd screen going out but it looks nice!

Thank you much,

2002 and up had immobilizers yours doesn't, you would need to worry about the mileage of the cluster as i've heard if there is too much of a difference between the two it will not start, but i could be wrong.
