Clutch install tips (quattro)
Well, bought a new to me 00 a4, quattro that needed a new clutch two weeks ago. Got a new southbend stage 3 with their 17 lwfw from dthaus.com. They have some truelly great costumer service and highly recommend them to anyone. But anyways the clutch install took me 17 hrs but, 5 of that was trying to get the darn splines to match up. Anyways here are my tips...
1) have two sets of Allen wrenches (6mm and 8mm) incase you mess one up
2) I found a 12 point 6, 8, 10, 12 mm wrench's (if thats what you call them) set at checkers for 10 bucks.
3) Have 3/8 ratchet style Allen sockets for the 6mm and 8mm (saves a bunch of time)
3) Make sure you have a good hold on your bolts as its very east to strip the heads out.
4) The drive shaft bolts were super tight (tightest of all my bolts I took off)
5) You dont need to take off the starter, ONLY the two large 16mm bolts)
6) You dont need to take any part of the exhaust out. I ONLY unbolted it from the turbo to move it slightly when i needed to, but never became a large hassle.
7) Have two people take the trans out and back in, rest of it can be done by one person.
8) When trying to get the splines to match up I found that you could pull in the trans by one of the top mounts but not the bottom so what I did was I took a long bolt that I could fit in the holes in the bottom then pulled the bottom by tightening the bolt with a nut.
Its not alot of tips but the clutch is a large task so hopefully it will help along with the online tutorials that i have listed below that I found

Good info. One thing I'll add to it is, when my CVs failed and I had to change my axles, I found that removing them does not require removing the pinch bolt (which is a serious bastard). By unbolting the lower trailing control arm, the axles can come out and be out of the way. Hopefully that'll save someone else the unnecessary hassle of trying to remove the pinch bolt.
