Do you have a VAGcom? Check the misfire monitors while under load. If you're getting "hiccups" while under load, most common issue on 01's is coil packs. They often fail first under load. If your coil packs are dated before 2008, run to the dealer and pick up 4 new ones. They are notorious on 01's.

Apologies, my internet was down...

The best way is with an Oscilloscope.. You should be able find a shop to do it through an inductive pickup, however. I had it done years ago on a different car.

As said, under load and pressure it gets harder and harder for your ignition to produce a spark. If your coils are weak, they will not be able to produce the voltage to create a spark at full boost.

I can't remember. I honestly have not touched a VAGcom in over a year now... semi-retired for the moment... Check Rosstech's website.

They were updated again in 2008.

I've never seen those. ECS is screwy with their application lists. There is now way those could fit ALL B5 1.8Ts because they have different ignition systems depending on the year. 2001 is specific to 2001 AWM. I'd stick with coil packs from the Audi parts department. Should run you $33.00 each.

i just don't like the idea of knowing that the coil packs like to fail all the time and would like something thats works.

i just installed bosch f6dtc plugs and it idles smoother better accelction and no boost issues, but ive only gone about 5 miles with them installed so far

That's why they've updated them... again. Swap them out every 40K miles and you'll likely never see an issue.
