Control arms changed and ABS kicks in
Hello Everybody,
This is kind of an emergency. I need to hit the road by tomorrow morning and drive for 8 hrs. I recently bought the upgraded s4 control arm kit from FCP groton and had them mounted on my car yesterday. I picked up my car from the shop and after a few minutes i had to make a stop at a right light. I hit the breaks and to my surprise i found that the ABS started kicking in and the break pedals bottoms out. It still happening. The ABS was kicking in all the time. I took the car back to the garage and they still haven't found why its happening as such. Quattro kicks in sometimes along with the ABS toooo......I'm in desperate times guys and please help me out on this.
BTW...It is 96 a4 2.8Q
Thanks

I had this problem when i had my mechanic change my front CV joint/axle assemblies. It was because the splines on the new axles were in a slightly different position than the old ones were, causing the ABS system to think the wheels were turning at different speeds from each other. This made the ABS kick in every time i hit the brakes. All i did was have them reset the ECU and erase the stored data points and it went back to normal.
I think you need to have the lower control arms repositioned maybe, it could be causing a funny angle of the drive axle which will make the ABS sensors freak out.

I need to fix this.....I spent so much on this car after i bought it..close to $2300...and still i have wierd problems...I'm better off selling this car.....Any info on this would do great help.......I'm broke on this thing....
Look at the WSS on each corner. Watch the signal with a scope or fast-reading DVOM. You can also visually inspect the tone rings for cracks or mud that would interrupt the signal.
Most likely, if the car wasn't doing this when you brought it in, and now it is, they may have touched something. If you need to get somewhere, you can pull the ABS/ESP fuses for now.
Which arms were replaced? Did they remove the axles? Did they use a press or an air hammer when they removed your axles and then were the axle nuts replaced and then torqued to spec? (I'm obviously hinting at damaged or improperly re-installed axles...)
