CV Joint...Need Help ASAP Please!
I know my CV joint is going out, but i still have a few questions. After reading the threads on this forum, i am still a little confused. When i turn and accelerate in first gear, i hear and barely feel a rumbling noise, at first i thought i was running over a patch of gravel. Is this the clicking noise or something else? Whatever it is, is it true that only the outer joint/boot can get damaged/torn and not the inner joint? I heard that the inner joint is almost impossible to break because of the steel it is composed of. I am currently at the conclusion that the noise i am hearing is not the clicking noise, which means that i will only have to pay $60-$70 each to get the rear boots replaced which should stock the noise and keep my car healthy. If it is the clicking noise, do i have to replace the whole shaft? How much will whatever i have to get cost? This is assuming that i will repair the cv joint myself.
Thanks a million to anyone who can answer all of these questions, i just really need them to be cleared up so i can stop stressing over the cv joints.

what generally happens is that the CV boot tears open and all of the grease if flung out everywhere....after that, there is no lubrication and when you turn your wheel and accelerate you will hear click click click click click until the wheel straigtens out...
there is a rebuild kit....they cost like $40 and are a PITA compared to buying the whole new axle assembly for like $130....
you should pull off your wheels and check to see if your boots are torn....
from what you stated above...I have absolutely no idea what is wrong with your car...I havent really had a rumbling sound....
at one point in time i had an audible hum while cruising on the freeway and it was a wheel bearing....
well....gl!

How much would a cv joint kit be because I'm extremely tight on money. Where can you find them? How hard is it to put it together as I'm pretty good with workin on my car, I could learn a few things but I think I know enough about it. In addition, all of my friends are car nuts and could definitely give me a hand with putting it together.
The boot kit is a pain in the ***. Just as qUaTtRoA4 said above, it's well worth the money to go ahead and buy the axle. I ordered my front axles for $99 each from www.germanautoparts.com after buying the boot kits - it looked like way too much of a pain, especially with the risk that you may not clamp the new boots just right, or your inner boot may then fail - you don't know. This way I got two new, fully assembled axles, and all I had to do was pack grease in the inner boot and install them. Highly recommended that you do it this way.
