Decrease clutch pedal travel
So I used to have a BMW 3-series with a manual and I was able to easily create a 'clutch stop' with a long bolt and some washers which screwed into the floor under the pedal. My current car is a 99 A4 2.8 Q which has even more clutch travel before engaging. In this case there is not a place in the floor to thread a bolt. Has anyone else found a way to resolve this on an A4?
tweaked:
I am talking about decreasing the physical travel distance of the clutch pedal before it engages, not replacing the clutch.

Interesting... do you happen to know that company's name?

Guy, I hear ya. I too am moving to an audi 2.8 from a 99 m3. When I first got in the car, I thought there was something wrong with the clutch. I was trying to get a feel for where it engaged, and I just kept rolling back because it was so far out lol.
I'd be very interested to decrease the clutch travel as well. I suppose I'll get used to it, but it just doesn't really feel sporty to me the way it is.

When I first got my Audi it was the same experience as yours. Now, 1.5 years later I have gotten used to it. Though no matter how good I may be at compensating it would be nice to mechanically limit that travel. My 3-series was pretty tight stock but with the clutch stop I installed it was very tight with about 1.5 inches of travel to engagement.
So what year 2.8 did you move to? I still love the good ole rear wheel bimmers, especially the M3, but when you get used to the quattro system it's a whole different experience.

nope, unless of course you have the travel so minimum that the clutch is still engaged when you shift. lots of the bmw guys use it. here's a couple of ideas though. good thing about the high engagement is it's good for clutch kicks lol

I think in general its further than most cars and stiffer. When i first got it i felt like i hadta slide my whole body to engage it and it seemed hard as hell at first to push.
