Default Diverter help

Ok I've searched the forums and done a bit of homework, so I've come to one conclusion and I'd just like a little bit of input to make sure I've got a right idea. I've got a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro and I just had it GIAC chipped, had a little bit of a problem with it but after a coil pack and new plugs it runs great. SO, to the point, I think I'm going to get the Bosche 710N valve, and I've heard some people put it in backwards for the sound, I'm curious if it changes the sound from the stock one if you put it in the correct way. Oh and how reliable is the 710N, I know some people have had it die within six months so...I would just like an input from the folks 'round here! Thanks!
