Does Everyones B5 have lots of heat soak?
So as the temps warm up in Texas, This will be my first summer with my Audi. I'm starting to notice that if I turn the car off after normal driving, the gauge is nearing or reaching the next line past the middle. I had to get the heater core changed in November, and they changed the coolant. Does everyone's Audi do this? Also, will this be stressful on the car in any way?

Mine does the same thing. Not sure if its a thermostat or coolant temp sensor problem or what? If i turn the car off for ten minutes or so, then turn it back on, the temp needle is on the first or sometimes second line to the right of the middle

I'm not sure about you, but it scares the hell out of me! Would the turbo be able to heat up ALL that coolant in such a short time?

Mine does the same thing

Do you guys drive your cars easily for the last couple of miles before you turn it off?
Mine doesn't do that, but my cooling system isn't exactly stock... |
Same thing, wicked bad heat soak. The intake manifold gets too hot to even touch...haha

If you are driving hard, I would let it run a bit before you shut it off.
Once you turn the engine off, the coolant is no longer circulating, so it just sits in the block channels and pipes and heats up. |
I do let it idle for a minute or so and it still happens...

You could check your cooling system or the coolant itself to make sure everything is OK and it's dissipating heat correctly.
Coolant temp in/near the engine will always go up a little once the engine is off--I would only be worried if it gets way too hot. Most OEM temp gauges are "idiot" temp gauges with ~3 settings, Too Cold, Warm, and Too Hot. If this is the case with our temp gauges, it may just be calibrated incorrectly. You could always hook up an ODBII cable and see the value the ECU is getting for the temp gauge. |
Full fill up on 93 octane...$46.00
New tires cause I love my AWD a little too much...$250.00 Having a turbo timer so I don't have to sit in my car and wait for it to cool down...priceless |
