my friend has a b5 and his door will lock and open perfect from the outside. but when you try to open it from the inside it wont open. you can pull the handle fine inside but it doesnt open the door. also took off his door panel and look at the handle and when you pull the handle and look at it inside the panel the handle is pulling the cable so it might be something inside the door. childlock was checked. not it. any other suggestions?

this should be rather easy if youre mechanically inclined. open it up completely and see whats not engaging.

Latch assembly or poor adjustment to the handle itself (stretched cable). There is also a retaining clip to hold the door pull cable against the door panel. If it's missing, it can allow the cable to pull away from the panel and not pull the latch open.
