Engine Misfire

Dammit, so heres the story... I went to a wake last monday and on my way back home I started the car and i noticed a significant amount of power loss, and a pulsating feeling while i was driving. My check engine light started to flash also. I ended up finding out that i had a problem in my #2 coil so i replaced it with a new one and i had no improvement. I just got back from checking it again and noticed that power is reaching all the way to were the plastic plug is to the coil but still its not generating a spark. My compression pressure for the #2 cylinder was at 100psi while the #1 was at 150psi, so i was assuming that the other two that are workin correctly should be at about 150# also. So if its not the coil, or the spark plugs or the fuse what else could it be? i kno its electrical but i cant figure it out. My only option is taking it to the stealership and after last nights encounter my dog had with a raccoon and all the money i spent today on his shots i really am not lookin to spend another few hundred... I think ima go find that dead raccoon and beat it to release my frustrations lol

when the same thing happened to me it was my MAF sensor, which only ended up being 400$ dollars, how old are your spark plugs? v6 or 1.8t?

TuApesta 10-20-2008 09:20 PM

its a 99.5 1.8t quattro, my spark plugs are no more then two months old

i even switched the spark plugs and i still got the same result so i kno it wasnt that

I think it's the stage, or ignition module. Someone will second my internet diagnosis shortly. Cheap fix, $60 on ebay.

Did you scan it with Vagcom? W/o troubleshooting codes, you will probably just end up replacing un-necessary parts purely on guesswork alone. Also, did you swap the coil from cylinder #2 to another cylinder to see if you still get misfires in cylinder #2?

TuApesta 10-21-2008 07:17 AM

yea i did swap the coils also and the coils were fine and i still had the problems with the #2 cylinder

It sounds like you have changed out your spark plugs not too long ago but it wouldn't hurt to do it again with new plugs since new NGK BKR7E's or the 6's are only a few dollars each. If the problem still exists then you can keep the spark plug(s) for the next tune up. BTW, did you clear the CEL codes after all of your changes? Clear the codes and see if it comes back.

TuApesta 10-21-2008 04:14 PM

its not the spark plugs i kno that for a fact since i checked them out also, and im not gonna clear the cel codes until its all been taken cared for. right no my car is running on three cylinders only

your all missing an important piece of info...

My compression pressure for the #2 cylinder was at 100psi while the #1 was at 150psi, so i was assuming that the other two that are workin correctly should be at about 150# also. So if its not the coil, or the spark plugs or the fuse what else could it be? i kno its electrical but i cant figure it out.
if those numbers are correct, its not an electrical problem.

compression should be above 160-180 for all cylinders and all of them should be within a few psi of each other. if your getting 100psi or less your rings are shot or your valves are not getting a good seal. sorry to say this is not as simple as replacing your plugs or coils.
