I was wondering how much it usually costs to do an engine swap. i have a 96 a4 2.8 with serious body damage but the engine is perfect and i found the same vehicle but the engine is crap. I was just wondering what the average price for the swap is. Thanks

 

I did change the engine (1.8t) on my car 2 years ago and it cost me 2000$(can) in labor. It should cost you a bit more since yours is a 2.8 but I'm not sure. Best way to find out is to go to your local mechanic for a estimate. It was something around 25h of labor.

 

I had a same 12v engine swap and also timing belt change for around $2500 I think, all parts and labor (insurance paid). But I was also quoted a little over $2000 for only labor from another place.
