Default Exhaust Problem

2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro

This morning on the way to work was totally fine. After work I started up my car and the exhaust sounds really loud. Sounds kinda like the videos where someone has taken out their resonator or something. I can't really tell if the noise is coming from the engine area or from the back of the exhaust or both. No check engine light or anything, but it does seem to have lost a little bit of power.

Well I figured out what the problem was. Dropped something under my car on accident and when I looked to grab it I saw the exhaust hanging off just behind the flex pipe.

You can get the flex pipe cut out and replaced (instead of buying a whole new cat).

There should be a large sleeve clamp just behind the flex pipe on a 1.8T. Its possible that clamp may have come loose or rusted off. Can you snap a pic?

Be happy you just have one. Replaced on flex pipe 2 months ago and have to do the other one when I have time as it's also failing

Already took it to a muffler shop and had it fixed. They welded on a new flex pipe. While it was there I had him cut out the resonator and muffler and weld on a Flowmaster 44 muffler.

Aren't turbo 44's designed for big displacement V8's ?

Mine slipped out of the clamp once, my car was loud as hell, i was honestly embarrassed to drive it sounding like that, but on the cool side it was shooting fire when i shifted.
