Default EGR Valve

My CEL is on due to EGR valve. I dont really feel like spending the 400 to get the valve and then labor so im gonna DIY. Any body done this before or have a good explination on how ot do it. Seems pretty straight forward, but ill need new clamps and attachments right? Also anyone have a valve off a junker or something i could use for less money, or should i just buy a new valve. Thanks.

Before you go on and do that. Make sure your EGR valve is actually kaput. It actually might just be blocked due to carbon build up. It shouldnt be too hard. Its on the farther end of the engine towards the right. Two bolts I should think.

I get a CEL for EGR valve every coupla months, but when i clear it it doesn't come back for another coupla months, so i'm not too worried about it. I got quoted about the same to have mine done, so when i eventually replace it i'm gonna DIY as well. I'll do a little looking around and see if I can find you anything (cause i'll need it eventually too lol)

I had a cel for the EGR and later I found a cracked vac line which can also explain for the power loss. So check those first, otherwise, the installation shouldn't be bad, just a hard are to work around..

what code are you exactly getting? i assume your talking about the kombi valve (SAI)? usualy this does not affect your power, it just pumps extra air into the cat so it burns your exhaust more efficiently, you may have another problem as well.

i think you can find a kombi valve and gasket for like $250 online and just do it yourself, its a pretty strait forward installation. alot of people even remove the valve entirely and block off the holes because its only necessary for emissions and to free up some room under the hood, although im not exactly sure how get rid of the CEL afterward.

Im not sure thats exactly what it does. The EGR is responsible for rerouting the exhaust air (15% or so) back to the cylinders. This injection of exhaust air changes the temperature inside the engine, burns off uncombusted material and in the process lowers NO emissions.

I took it too a dealer and two other audi shops and they said it was the EGR valve. I dont remember the exact code i want to say 410 or 414? But dont hold me to it. The loss of power may be due to other things. My accelerater is sticky, but when i do hammer down, it feels like its bogging down. Also my idle has become very inconsistant.
