front door wont open from inside

The front drivers door wont open from the inside , works perfectly from the outside , stripped the door lock out of the door and everything seems to work fine ,I then put the door lock back in the door and it opened fine untill I locked then unlocked the door , now it wont open again from inside .It is as if the interior handle isnt moving the lock release enough , maybe the lock is worn , but everything moves on the lock freely , any help greatly appreciated

the cable that goes from the lock assembly to the inside handle needs to be cliped into a certain spot on the door panel I believe, it could be popping off.

no its not popped off , even with the door card removed ,I can see the lock moving when I pull the wire , I think either the wire has stretched ( unlikely) or there is something worn on the lock itself

pop th cable out of the door handle on the inside handle. DOnt lose the little metal clasp, it will fly, then pull the cable all the way out. If nothing then your right to suspect its worn, or broken. cheap fix from a yard or a part out.

Make sure the cable housing is clipped securely in place. It is not enough that the cable end be attached, because opening the latch depends on relative motion of the two. If the housing moves when you pull the cable, the latch will not open. (Been there ... done that on my 1996 A4.)
