So ya my fuel pump went out last week. When I ordered a new one I ordered a walbro that supports up to 255 hp. I also am going to swap out my filter for a high flow one. Neither of which are stock. I am going to have to change the wiring inside the basket. The clip from the outside will remain. But anyways my question is am I going to be blowing fuses and relays? Or am I good?

 

I wouldn't think a new fuel pump would cause you to blow fuses and relays. Sounds like a good thing to upgrade, couldn't hurt anyway.

 

No you will not blow fuses, but when you hook up the wires to the walbro make sure you put them the opposite way the stock pump hooks up.

 

And just why would I want to reverse the polarity on the walbro??

 

I just wasnt to sure if it would be drawing more power and be trippin stuff

 

I have been running an upgraded pump for years and am now running 3 pumps but the 2 inline bosch 044 pumps run off their own relay but the relay is still switched from the first relay.


It seems if you wire the walbro pump the same way as the stock pump the walbro ends up pumping in the other direction, dont ask me way it is that way but I know plenty of other people that didn't know that fact and the car wouldn't start becaue the pump wasn't moving fuel, then they switched the wires and it would work.

You might want to check up on it when you do the install.

 

mike is right anyways my fuel pump works but here is the funny thing the fuse blows with what the factory size i think it was a 15 and i moved the fuse to a 20 and it works fine anyone find that funny im thinking its getting old and going out

 

Does seem odd, I didn't have any problems at all with the walbro pumps I ran and no problem when I upgraded to the bosch 044 intank.

 

is it a new fuel pump or old? cause when my old one went out it started drawing more current and blew my 15. didnt swap to a 20..... why prolong it?

 

manufacturers usually use the smallest gauge wire to do the job, both to save space weight and cost. if a wire has a 15A fuse on it, putting a larger fuse and load on the wire can cause an electrical fire. if a fuse keeps blowing, do not just put a larger fuse in. thats the entire point of having a fuse in the first place.
