Fuel Tank Removal

I am trying to find a write up or a thread on how to remove/drop down a fuel tank on a 97 A4 1.8T Quattro... I've tried searching for one but couldnt find anything closest thing I could find was to change a fuel filter which I tried doing yesterday but doesn't tell you how to completly remove the tank and I couldn't figure out what was holding it in place after removing the straps that hold the tank to the body. I got to get to the top of the tank to seal it up because a friend of mine drilled 2 holes up top trying to mount my sub box down... If anyone can point me to a good writeup on it or tell me how to do it I will really appreciate it, Thanks!

start by pulling the whole rear end out of the car. its the only way to get the tank out

and by the way the better way to deal with that situation is to cut away the sheet metal around the holes and j.b. weld them shut. that happened to me from those assholes at bestbuy, so i did that instead when my good friend, (audi mechanic) told me to take the tank out would be hundreds n hundreds

Wow, didn't know it would be that difficult to drop the tank down. I unbolted the straps from the car that are on the tank and the tank was moving a lot, but some how it still held in place from up top some how. But yea I guess I'll just cut the sheet metal and seal them up like that (which came to my mind while trying to drop it down yesterday) but I wanted to see if there was a better solution, I don't really want to rip apart the rear end to drop the tank down... but thanks guys for the replies!
