Unhappy Weird accelerating problem

my car recently acted weird

started my car, let it warm up, then i was accelerating and as soon as i got to around 20 mph, it stayed there while i tried to accelerate more. the rpm's went from 2000 then to 3000 while i stayed going 20mph. so i stopped the car in the middle of the road. then put it in park, then put it back in drive (automatic ). and all was back to normal. any suggestions? no CEL. im getting codes scanned tomorrow.

im getting a timing belt job done tomorrow as well. so any suggestions would help so me and the mad scientist can take a look at what is going on simultaneously. if it helps any, i know my coolant temp sensor needs to be and will be replaced.

Transmission slipping... torque converter or clutch packs... or so I'd say. Check the fluid level/condition to start with. ...Assuming it didn't get kicked into neutral...
