Is this a good deal?
I just sold my 02 corvette and looking at getting a 96 a4 quattro. It has 66k miles on it. The only thing wrong with it is that you can't start in drive. You have to shift down to 2nd then when you start building speed you can shift back into drive. I have found that it could be the transmission control unit which is 1500 dollars from audi. It doesn't hurt anything but just more of a pain in the @$$. Do you think4k dollars is a good deal for it?
Just letting you know the 96 A4's have the 2.8 - 12V engines. If you're looking for something that would be easier to modify with many more aftermarket parts, I suggest going for the 1.8T engine.
As for the price, I'm not too sure since it has pretty decently low mileage but yet it has that gear problem.

Well a more pain in the butt it might be will bring the offer lower. It does have low mileage but it's a 96 and its getting out there. Nothing wrong with that though. I bought my 97 a month ago with 96k miles and paid $4,700. Nothing wrong except for the cruise. I would offer quite a bit lower since it's a tranny related issue and really ask yourself if you have the extra money and the will to dump a lot of money and work into it right off the bat.
why are you even considering buying a car with an automatic transmission? that's just more parts that can break, and it was designed so that sorority girls and Down syndrome kids would be able to "operate" a car.
i can deff say find a manual.. if it wasnt for the auto trans in my car, i wouldn't be selling my car this summer for an s4, my transmission was leaking and slipping bad. 900$ later and its not 100% better, so i cant put any more power than im making right now with the tune... so yea. look for a manual. and if u plan on modding it dont get a 12v go for a 1.8
oh yea..the fast american cars.....
LMAO he just dropped the american cars are faster line.. First off, vetts are **** k? Yes we all know they have 500+ RWHP, but in rain, snow, ice, etc., they perform like ****. AUDI on the other hand, and their GENIUS idea of Quattro, will perform nicely in ALL of the conditions I listed above. I'm not here to flame your post, to jack it, or give you crap. You want our opinion, we're gonna tell ya. Auto trans are POS. If you want a good DD, nice gas mileage, and something that's still fun to drive, 1.8T 5spd. Mods are available for anything you want. If you want a little bit more power, yet conserving that MPG while tearing up the corners, chip/zaust/springs etc. The possibilities are endless. For the amount your going to drop on that auto with 66k, prepare to drop about another 3-6k on a new trans, plus whatever else needs to be done while they're in there and labor. Good luck mate.
