Gt2871
Hey everyone, Im new to this site and the Audi world but have had tons of VW's. I bought myself an A4 with a 1.8T and well I cant leave it as it is. I need more power.
I have been offered a kit by a friend, its the complete kit GT2871R. All bits and pieces I need to install in my car. Now my big question is, Do I have to change the rods if Im going to be going to a bigger turbo like that one. If so, what else would be recommended to do at the same time. I have just gotten the timing belt done a couple weeks ago so that's one thing less to do.
Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes with a turbo of that size, depending on power goals, internals will need upgrading, rods to be specific as they will break before the stock pistons roughly 350hp at the engine. While your at it, if your have spare cash lying around, some new pistons would be nice as well. Your also looking at a new clutch along with fmic, afpr, fuel pump, injectors etc and all the minors like you have mentioned.
As for power Im hoping to get up to 350-400hp. As for transmission and transfer case would I have to do anything to those? I figured I would have to upgrade my clutch to a better one, probably stage 3. I was also recommended to look at the RS4 conversion clutch, would that be something you would recommend Instead of a aftermarket clutch? The kit does come with the injectors and the bigger fuel pump. For brakes, should I upgrade to S4 brakes all around?
How serious are you about upgrading?
-GT2871 is very capable of bending rods. If you kept boost to 18psi, the rods would probably last a while, but youd be missing a lot by not running 22-25psi
-The transmission will work just fine on a 2871 unless you plan on launching the car a ton. There is no transfer case in an audi AWD transmission.
-I run the ECS RA4 conversion with the s4 disk in my car, and I run a 2871 with around 320awhp. It has held up just fine but it will go out sometime as that disk is not meant for that much power. I only put down 275awtq so that has likely been saving my clutch
-What is all in this kit? you'll need a lot more than just a turbo, some injectors and a fuel pump. The list of parts is quite long
-For brakes, s4 brakes are kind of the standard upgrade. The rears can be done easily, but the fronts require switching to s4 uprights. What year is your a4?

Im pretty serious on making good numbers. Im in process of buying a short block to do a build then when time is right drop it in the car. My car is a 2001, I forget the engine code but Im sure you know what it is. I was thinking of running Unitronic for programming, what is your opinion on that? I've already started building my list of what I need as for parts and I am going to go with pistons and rods, do a valve job since I got a spare block and Im there. As for the clutch, I was looking at the ECS RA4. Is it good for high horsepower or would you recommend something stronger? I am building this to be a fun weekend car and to track it too. Im going high boost. As for the kit, I cant remember exactly what is in it, but he said theres everything except internals.
I greatly appreciate your help!
I greatly appreciate your help!
here, read through my build thread and ask questions after that. best thing to do is read a bunch of build threads and make your own decisions on other peoples successes and failures
