Default Heat shield question..

Well, today i made my own heat shield for my intake (which i still havent finished, because im waiting on my damn breather filter to arrive). It looks almost identical to the Blinktek Design shield. Now that its all done, im wondering if the shield should have some sort of heat blocking material one one side or is it fine the way it is? Oh and its made out of some shiny aluminum
Thanks.

well the heat sheild does not do anything for performance area just for looks once the car is moving it is getting cold air through the grille and u use isulation and wrap it up in like a aluminum tape like you would use on a ac vent in your house

thats not correct. i even have my passengers side signal light removed so there is a strait path of air to the cone filter, and still without a heatshield my IATs increase by about 10-25 degrees C. if you are in stop and go traffic it makes an even bigger difference. even if there is airflow under the hood, its still sucking up some of the 200-300 degree air coming from the 1000+ degree glowing red turbo.

i would put a layer of aluminum-backed insulation tape on the side of the shield facing your filter. if you put it on the turbo side of the shield you risk just scorching the insulation.

The heat shield really does help even if you're moving at a nice speed. The reason i did a Blinktek replica is because ive heard so many good things about it (performance wise). I was thinking of getting some exhaust wraps but surely theyre not going to have a good long term effect on a daily driven car. I guess im gonna go get some furnace insolation or something similar tomorrow

I was so eager to get this shield done today i forgot to take some pics along the way. Its not hard, cutting the aluminum was the hard part because it bends so easily, too many bends and it will look like crap. Mind you, i was using wire cutters. With some proper tools it will be like a walk in the park. Ill try to make some sort of a write up tomorrow, we'll see how it turns out.

how does it mounts is my question and what if we make a tube in the intake all the way to the front of the grille =] wouldnt that be awasome

the efficiency of your engine is a delta of the input and output gas temperature. the colder and denser the air is the greater the delta and the greater the potential output. 30 degrees absolutely matters when it comes to air temp, every degree matters. it helps further prevents intercooler heatsoak, lower temps prevent knocking and predetonation, increases the amount of oxygen you can get into the engine related to volume of air, increases the exhaust velocity that drives the turbo, etc.
