Default heated seat is cold

Just bought my b5 last week.

My wife (who can not drive for medical reasons) loves the heated seat. She gets heat far sooner than I do.

I don't notice heat in the drivers seat for 5-10 minutes - and I don't seem to have any heat in the back of my seat. And it seems to heat unevenly.

Any thoughts? I love simple and cheap answers!

Thanks!

Mine do that sometimes too, I just attributed it to the car being a over a decade old. Also, I thought the seat heaters were just on the horizontal seat surface, not the back? Anyone else have any more useful input?

Well - this one is only 8.5 years old <grin> For now.
The passenger seat is the important one - but if there is a cheap fix for the drivers seat I'd be interested.

The owners manual says something to the effect of kneeling on the seat can damage the heating elements.

Does anyone know how many heating elements are in the seat? How about the back of the seat?

How much are replacement elements? (after all, the wiring is all there).

Thanks again

I have the exact same problem. My wife gets heat from her seat but not me. On the passenger seat it heats the bottom and back. On mine it heats the bottom only once and a while and it never gets very hot. I think its the heating element, my guess is that the seat would have to be taken apart to replace it and not cheap.

You have to take apart the whole seat but you can replace them, no problem. A buddy of mine bought an '01 B5 after riding in my '98 and his driver's seat doesn't heat up for anything. Both of mine seem to work all too well; if you turn 'em up to 6 they'll basically set you on fire.

my driveside is the one that works. both bottom and back. and yeah it sets you on fire. but my passenger side is the one with the problems. only along the edges of the bottom it works. someone said something about a cheap fix. how do you do it?
