hmm sounds like there must be an easier way to adjust these lights. Yeah, I don't know where you live, but I live in deer party CT, so I need all the light I can get to keep these beasts away. My brother just got his B5 repaired after hitting a deer 5 mins from our house this past winter.

That totally sucks! I live in SoCal. Fortunately for us, most streets here are decently lighted. I understand what you're talking about though. When I was around Midwest area, some streets are beyond dark.

I'm not 100% sure if those high beams can be adjusted without taking them off. I just know there are ***** for the adjustments as I have taken off the headlights couple of times already. I can check it out tomorrow and get back to you whether or not it's possible.

Dallas09 - Your buddy probably has a B6 since the link to AW said it works for '01 TT and '03 A4.

OP - There is also a self adjusting plastic for high beam. However, I believe you have to take the headlights out to adjust these.
My bad for that bad link. My buddies is forsure B5 and forsure has the autoleveling though. Ive seen the sensor in the front suspension of the car (wasnt sure what it was at first and posted here, then also looked it up in my service manual) and he has the motors in the housing...

Yeah that link was bogus. I still haven't gotten around to adjusting them, and still haven't figured out the auto-leveling/manual dilema

the 01 does not have self leveling. if you look open the hood and look at the top of the headlight there are white plastic things that you can either use a phillips head screw driver or allen key to adjust the headlight. one of the adjusters you can easily spot but the other one is down under a hole on the side right by where the 3rd screw is that holds the headlight on. the adjusters move the whole housing so the highbeam and low beam move at the same time, don't bother adjusting the high beam and low beam independently, they'll line up fine if you just use the white adjusters

awesome a solid answer. can you give me advice on exactly how to adjust them, park X distance from wall on even ground, etc? And should i adjust them while on high beam, or while on lows?

i eyeballed mine and then tested it on the road lol. basically i have it aimed right now so that the top of my beam is just on the top of any other sedans trunk. i should go a little lower but this height is perfect cuz i don't need high beam, i just turn on my fogs

Default auto leveling headlights

i have a 2001 A4 and it does in fact have auto leveling headlights. you can see them adjust when you turn them on.
