obviously.

for future reference always give information about your vehicle when you post. 11 words isnt enough information for us to give you an answer.

Basically yeah you should go to your user control panel and create a signature including your year, model, engine, drivetrain, and transmission (such as 2001 A4 2.8 30v qm, where qm is quattro/manual). It'll help a lot.

That being said in this case you probably have a bad combination switch (headlight switch) - it's very common. The usual symptoms are parking lights work but not headlight low beams. If you pull on the stalk the high beams will light but that's it. That's a bad switch, which runs about $158 from www.ecstuning.com. Replacing it involves removing the airbag and steering wheel. It's not terribly hard by any means but there are things to keep in mind when dealing with airbags. Buzz me in a reply here or better, a PM and I can discuss it with you (it's been talked about in the forums a lot and probably doesn't need to be covered on-air again).

www.audidiy.com

Never ceases to amaze me how many writeups there are at that site. They have an excellent one for the headlight switch that I used two weeks ago.

I have this same problem but it is just the driver side head light and sometimes the signal does not work. Could this be my problem or something else

You probably have a worse problem. If its the whole headlight, check the connections. Fuses? Bulbs? Unlikely, but cheap to check and fix. Cross your fingers and hope its not a wiring gremlin.

it is just the low beam, the high beam still works and the signal usually does

Headlight and turn signal typically are separate issues. Check your fuse panel - each low beam has it's own fuse.
