help installing short shifter?

I'm going to install an off-brand b&m shifter (which was recommended to me on this very forum) and the B&m instructions say that some cars may need the entire center console to be removed. I need to know if that applies to my car and how to go about removing the console.

The instructions also tell me I need to lubricate certain parts of the shifter before installation. what should I lube with? I'm lost as to whether it means WD40 or more industrial grease.

I may have more questions as time progresses, and I am hoping to install this before this weekend.

For the record, here is the shifter I bought (mine did not come with a knob and some of those parts)

Lastly, if you bought a shift knob online that you particularly like, please share. My (stock) shift knob is too wide, and it will bother me with a short shifter, im sure.

I've installed this shifter on a 97 2.8 with push-down reverse, and a 2001.5 1.8T without push-down reverse, and didn't remove the console for either one. It's absolutely possible to do it that way.

If you have big hands or not a lot of patience, you might think about it, just because it'll open up some more space for ya, but it definitely isn't necessary.

Don't use WD-40 to lube the pieces, it isn't designed for that. Use white lithium grease
