Need help identifying part/ issue!
I have a 2001 A4 Avanti, 1.8 turbo 5spd Quattro, 124,326 miles, NO codes or warning lights. I opened the hood yesterday to add windshield washer fluid and noticed spray. There is also a cut in a hose. I can't find a diagram that identifies the hose, I just know its off a check valve. Can I just replace the hose with something similar or wrap some tape around it?
I don't have any performance issues and I'm not sure what is leaking from it. Sorry for my NOOBNESS!
Thanks for the help
Mike

I can't tell what hose it is, but it looks like it might be the return line to the expansion tank?
You'll slowly lose coolant, so keep an eye on it. Some sort of epoxy would work as long as you're POSITIVE none gets inside the hose, and into whatever system that hose belongs to.
Tape might work but my guess it fluctuates between hot and cold quite a bit so I'm not sure it would last long.
Best bet, of course, is to replace the hose. It's probably $10-$20
edit: Wait I think I see it in the first pic now. It looks like a vacuum hose. It wouldn't explain the spray on your intake, nor would it explain the fact you have no performance issues, but you wouldn't lose coolant.

Verify but I think this is the hose.

And I am not affiliated with ECS - just had a decent pic with description.

It's the main Vacuum line, coming off of the intake manifold, feeding the suction jet pump. You need to replace it (I'm sure it's cheap). With the car running, spray a mist of carb cleaner on/around it. If you do indeed have a vacuum leak, then the car will bog down.
The expansion tank hose goes from the expansion tank, to the upper radiator hose (which is actually a Black pipe) next to the manifold.
