HELP...What hole is this oil coming from??

I got my oil changed on my 01 1.8t A4 today. After a while, I notice puddles in my drive way.

There is this hole, on the driver side right behind the little bar that the skid plate uses to connect itself.

Im thinking the person changing the oil took that off either thinking it was the oil drain hole, or one of the bolts to the skid plate. Please help!

In the picture, you can see the little bar that the skid plate attaches to(right above the little green line in the bottom left, and behindit where I am pointing with a screwdriver, you can see the hole with the oil leaking out.

First, dont drive your car or turn it on, you can destroy the crank and bearings if you are to low on oil. Sounds like the filter isnt tight. The filter is just below the intake manifold, go see if its covered in oil with a flashlight.

Ok I looked at the oil filter from the top of the engine bay. In the front its completely dry, but I ran my fingers around it, and theres oil on the bottom side. It seems really tight tho.

Whats that hole that I was pointing to?

No this is nothing to worry about, the oil filter is directly above the subframe, when the oil filter is removed close to a half a quart of oil spills on the subframe. I would say the lazy ass tech didn't use some break cleaner and clean off the subframe. Take out the coolant expansion tank and clean up all the puddled oil on top of the subframe. Also make sure the filter is tight and check the oil level after taking a drive. Im almost 99% sure thats what he did.

Ok that sounds like you could be right, because it was messy all around the oil drain plug, but then I cleaned that up. Ill clean up all the rest and see what happens. He must of just been really lazy. What is that hole though? Is it just there and serves no purpose?

Oh the hole, don't know really, all audi subframes are hollow so i think its just a drain, its hard to tell from your pic though.

auditech was right again..

The tech made a freakin mess and had oil everywhere. It was dripping from all over.People just really don't care, and do a halfassed job.

Moral of the story..Do your own oil change! I just couldnt this time because I was at college.

Are you sure its oil, not your transmission fluid?

Unfortunately, sloppy oil changes will leave oil all over your A4's subframe and it's a b!tch to clean. I use a shallow tub and a PIGmat above the subframe, below the filter and remove it from above. It saves a lot of clean-up.

Well, the area for the transmission fluid would have a drain and fill hole. The hole there is just one..so, I was hopeing it was a drain like auditech said.

Do you happen to have a picture or diagram of the undercarage of a B5 A4?
