Default Hesitant throttle/slow down rev

Quick question. I have a 96 2.8 quattro Manual and its been running fine until recently when I noticed that when I step on the throttle it takes sort of hesitates to rev up and then when i let off to shift the revs are slow to go down again. Any ideas what could be causing this? thanks!

Try cleaning your throttle body. You may also want to look at the throttle cable and maybe adjust it.

Do you have a CEL or any codes?

nope no codes or CEL, I did the throttle body adjustment trick and it sort helps when i step on the gas but it still is slower than normal to get back to idle after i press the clutch when driving.
