Default How To: 1998 Audi A4 2.8L V6 clutch replacement - UPDATE 1

After doing the timing belt, valve cover gaskets, and couple of other small repairs it is time to tackle the last big thing; the clutch. After searching around, it doesn't look like there are any definitive guides (with pics) on how to change the clutch on the almighty V6.

I have decided to place the guide in an easy to follow format at the following location http://www.happywrenching.com/audi/a...ion-guide.html

Audi A4 Clutch Replacement Guide - clutch removal and installation instructions

WOW buddy, you exhaust looks exactly like mine.....you get bonus points for keeping us 2.8's up-to-date with you project. I have plenty of miles on my stock clutch and will probably replace that soon. The photos are great too. Keep us posted

nice! is this extremely different than a 1.8t clutch install? besides the obvious 2 exhaust pipes compared to 1? if they are different which is more straight forward?

and distilled where are you from?

I could have definitely went a different route with removing the exhaust and I'll write more on that later. Too tired, sucks having to work and then come home and work some more . But I gotta get this done while the weather is still nice.

Don't know how I'm going to reach the transmission bolts (especially the top ones). Hopefully I won't have to drop the subframe.

I'm from Osseo, MN.

you don't need to drop the transmission, I just moved mine back 6-9inchs to get my hands in there.

Very good. When you are finished, if you want to compile your progress into a single DIY post we can sticky it. If your fw donesn't show all colors of the rainbow then just scuff it up some with some med-heavy grit sand paper. I personaly would not have a dm fw resurfaced.

Good luck with that pilot bearing! In my case the bearing puller was not good enough. I had to gouge it out with various probing tools. Put the new one in the freezer for a couple hours - it'll go in pretty easy that way.
