I need help figuring out rattling noise please!!!

Hey guys, i have searched all night and came up with a ton of diff articles and threads regarding rattling noises but none were exact example of what is going on with my 2000 a4 1.8t manual transmission... if anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated...thanks...

here is the deal

sometimes when car is idling in neutral i hear a constant rattle or ticking noise coming from under the car more on the driver side...and sometimes there is no noise....

as well, just lately with car running in neutral not pressing the clutch pedal.... if i snap throttle real quick, as soon as i let off throttle and rpms start going down i hear a loud rattling noise immediately after letting off the throttle, and once it comes all the way down from revving it goes away, and then i noticed the same noise if i just gradually bring rpm's up, again in neutral without pressing clutch pedal....but then if i do both snap throttle or gradually bring rpm's up with clutch pedal pushed in there is no noise, and if i am gradually bringing rpm's up and push clutch pedal once i hear the noise, it will go away as soon as i push the clutch???????????

at first i thought it might be a bad turbo blade or bad turbo bearing bc it sounds almost like what a bad metal blade spinning would sound like, until i noticed it going away when clutch is pushed.....sorry for being soooo long winded about this, im just making sure i leave no details out...please help i have been researching all night and keep seeing throw out bearing but im not sure.....

It's called clutch rattle and it's pretty common, oddly enough mine went away with a thicker motor oil. I can make this noise happen when I let the rpms drop really low by pulling up on the gas pedal.

Do a search for clutch rattle.

The above posts are probably right. The first thing I thought was the EGR valve though. Its on top of the airbox and makes this annoying ticking that varies in speed. I guess its normal to tick. If it ticks, its working! lol
