Default i ordered the wrong part...?

I guess in my frustration at my car needing constant maintenance, I ordered the wrong catalytic converter. This is what I ordered.

Should I just RMA it back out before I even open it, or could it be useful to me at all? I hate to say it, but this car has cost me so much money in the 10 months I have had it. I miss the **** out of my f150 at this point...

Was it just the cat that you needed replaced? and im guessing you wanted a high flow one?
If your looking for an affordable High Flow Cat check out Labree most people would agree on here they like them the best and you can probably get it cheaper than what you paid for that.

I dont care what kind of cat, I just need this damn engine light off ASAP. I actually called labree before hand and the guy told me that I would have to buy the entire setup, that the cat wasnt available. So I have no effing idea now...

I see these, but arent these the downstreams? I need upstream according to my code correct??

it seems like every site has only one or the other.

Well since no one else is helping you and I pretty much know nothing about the 2.8 30V by looking at my Bentley Manual have you narrowed the problem down to the right or left cat?

You're confusing O2 sensors and catalytic converters. 2.8 V6 has two cats... one for each cylinder bank. "Upstream/downstream" refers to the O2 sensor location because there is one in front of each cat and one in back of each cat.

Your best bet is likely to go shopping at a local exhaust shop. I believe the 2.8 V6 cats have to be welded in at/with the flexpipes. Otherwise, you'll be looking at replacing the cat with pipe from the manifolds back to the Y-pipe, which would likely be more expensive.

P.S... What's your code?

Thanks for your help. The code is P0431. I have an RMA on the cat I received, although when I got under the car it looks nearly identical. I think physically it will fit, but I couldnt tell if the flanges were the same or not. Are the audis more difficult to replace the cats on than other vehicles? if the average muffler shop has no problem doing it then that would be great. But I know that some places start freaking out when people bring in european products.

Not really. Make some calls and be sure they are willing to work on it for you. You could also try an aftermarket Audi/VW specialist. Good luck.

P.S. P0431 is a weird code. If your cat is actually bad and causing the issue, I can't imagine the other side is too far behind.
