Talking ideas on makeing a cutsom intake...

i have a 01 a4 1.8t awm and i wanna make a custom intake for it instead of spending like 400 dollers on a carbon fiber one from carbino i think thats a little much so i have a pretty good idea how its done but i would like to see what other ppl have done and any specs and what not. thanks alot! im sure this thread can help out more ppl then me who are the do it your selfers

I know some people do the "Swiss Cheese" mod if you're interested in doing that.

Same car. I just recently made a custom intake. I got a big ol' K&N filter and a small breather one. attach breather to proper place. The big filter I have attached directly to the MAF and then the Turbo Inlet Pipe, which I also replaced at the same time. That is it. Only took me about an hour total to replace everything. I'll try and post some pics up so you can see what it looks like.

if you have not removed your sai, you will need this
K@N breather filter part number 62-1410
also, your maf is 2.75"so you will need a filter around that size as i would say just slap a cone filter on the maf and get a nice heat shield. if you search, you will see this topic has been covered.
or just check the classifieds. i was able to pick up an abd for $100 2 years ago, sold it to my gf brother for $80 when i went to the T28.

i think this is one of the cleanest homemade intakes. this is the same thing i ended up doing after seeing this picture.

don't forget to get / custom make a heat shield.
