Install heated seats in 'non heated' car?
Can I install heated seats into a 'non heated' car?
Non heated car is 1997 A4. Heated car (donor) is 1998 A4. Is the non heated car 'pre wired' (wire to the seat, connector under blank dash switch)? |
To do the swap using all factory parts, you'll need the seats, the wiring harness for the seats and the center console from the donor car where you got the seats, and a new HVAC controller for the seat heater switches.
If you wanted to run the seats with some kind of aftermarket switch setup, you could just tap a switched 12v source under the seats someplace and build your own switch setup. |

Center console: there are blank spaces for the heater controls. Obviously, the switch is needed, maybe the wiring end. Are the HVAC head units different, or just softcoding? I have complete donor car setup, so all 'hardware' is there. Was just hoping that I don't have to switch the wiring harness. |
You need the dash harness and the sub-harnesses that go from the dash to the seats. The dash harness incorporates the connectors and wiring for the switches, which you'll take from the donor car. The HVAC head unit isn't needed - on the facelift setup the seat heater switches are built in but in both your car and the donor car they're independent parts that you'll put in up above the radio.
It's work but heated seats are worth it. Search the web - one of the forums had a DIY a guy wrote for doing exactly what you're looking at. |
Ahhh good call Jer, my mistake. They moved the seat heater buttons with the facelift dash. My apologies!
