Ive got an A4 but have just bought my Mrs an A3 but no one seems to answer any questions in the A3 section.. Could any of the A4 guys help.

I have a 1998 Audi A3 1.8T which i bought a couple of weeks ago. Thought it was chipped but realised today that my hose from the wastegate actuator was broken I thought if that hose broke the car would run open boost and cut out but the boost is holding 15-16psi. I tried connecting a boost controller but could only manage to take it to 13psi max no matter which way i piped the boost controller fully turned up Could the car be chipped because i also realised that the hose coming from the n75 valve going to the wastgate was pinched closed with a s/s clip as if on purpose and thats
what made me follow the hose down where i found the hose from the wastegae was dangling and open. Any clues??? I Havent been able to get to my ECU because i have been unable to remove my wiper motor cover. il get to that soon but does any of this make sense??

 

What type of boost controller do you have?

 

Manual Turbosmart. I thought this would happen because my turbo is basically running open boost but maxing out at 16psi. I dont know if this is a saftey feature that audi has but all other turbo cars ive owned used to go off the scale if i ran open boost. Which is taking the vacuum hose out off the wastegate..

 

Anyone have any clues??? Why am i not able to boost more than 16psi?? Not that i want to but why cant i?? It doesnt cut out or anything. Just holds the boost around 15psi max even with my wastegate hose pulled off.
