Default just bought a motor

i just got a complete 1998 1.8t for my car with 96000 miles on it. it came with everything except for the alternator, A/C compressor, and turbo. it has an after market PES exhaust manifold on it that wont work for my stock turbo. the guy has the turbo that was on it still. he says the turbo is in great shape and i think it is a Garrett T28. he said he would sell me the turbo and everything for it for $300 i think i can maybe talk him down a little. what do you guys think i should do? i can use my stock manifold and put my stock turbo on it or should i go with the garrett?.... i also have GIAC software, will that work for the garrett?

as far as the progress on the old motor i think im gunna have it out by tomorrow. just need to figure out what turbo im gunna use before i put the newer motor in.

im glad to finally get this thing going again!!

thanks

Sounds great. I can't wait to see the progress.

Are you planning on going BT?

Alright, if you do plan on doing BT you should just go for the turbo he's selling. It sounds like a deal. Is it in working condition though?

Also the GIAC will not work with this turbo. You will need another tuning for this. I'm sure GIAC gives out discounts for returning customers.

Just make sure the PES manifold does not have any cracks.

PES manifolds seem to like to crack. i wouldnt be comfortable running with a cracked manifold if i were you. might be fine temporarily if you have no other alternative. its probably not going to explode, but it will decrease performance, leak exhaust into the engine bay which could get sucked into the cabin and smell bad, and the crack will get bigger over time.
