Ko4 Turbo
Hey guys just a few questions I had about the Ko4 turbo upgrade. I plan on installing it myself, after I do so how many pound of boost will it hold with the stock ECU? How many pounds of boost will it hold in general? Is there anything that I have to do for it to push more boost off of my stock set-up, or do I have to get the front mount intercooler along with the manifold and ECU to push more boost? Thank you very much for answering my questions
You will get the same amount of boost as you did before with a Ko4 if you dont get a tune (depending on the year 7-8 or 9-11 psi). To get the most out of a Ko4, you need the ecu chipped, bigger fuel injectors, and from there a FMIC an an exhaust.
Here's a quote from Mike Hood (THE man when it comes to performance upgrades) in another recent thread regarding the KO4:
So, what Dallas is saying is true, just slapping the KO4 on without anything else won't change anything. (In case you didn't know, Mike is refering to a Fuel Pressure Regulator when he's talking about 5 bar, 3 bar, ect. Don't want to insult your intelligence at all, just saying, just in case you, or anyone else who happens on to this thread, wasn't sure what he meant).
Standard GIAC K04 is for stock injectors and 5 bar, but the PC16 is 310-317cc injectors with a 3 bar fpr but runs much better on a adjustable FPR at around 2.6-2.8 bar because at 3 bar the car runs a big rich at WOT.
Well, you may want to upgrade your brakes and suspension as well...
I'm not sure what the boost on the GIAC KO4 chip is set at. However, you sound like you have a minor "need for speed" bug biting you. If that's the case, go big or go home.
If your stock KO3 is still good, then don't waste the money on the KO4. I've read more than a number of times that it's not worth the money, very little HP gain for the amount of money spent. Instead, look into an Elim or full turbo kit. Many places have complete kits with the injectors and software included. Throw on a high flow exhaust manifold, FMIC, and you're good to go. Of course, you're looking at a few thousand bucks instead of a couple thousand bucks. But, you'll be pushing 300-350+ HP (depending on what set up you get) instead of 240 max with the KO4.
I was thinking about a 2871 Elim kit myself, but ultimately decided against it bacause I plan to give this car to my oldest in a few years when he's old enough to drive. So, I will stick with some slight, modest mods for now...

Well the thing is i have two bent fan blades so its making a grinding sound so i would like to replace it. I was reading up and from what i understand with the Ko4 upgrade, a front mount, injectors, and a chip/tune i will be able to run 18 pounds just fine. Is this inaccurate?
18 PSI should be fine. Some chips push 18 PSI on the stock KO3 (Speedtuning I believe). The internals should have no issues with 18 PSI.
If you have to change the turbo anyway, the KO4 is worth it since you're only spending a couple extra hundred over the KO3.
